Little Paws Big Hearts (LPBH) was established on 2 November 2013 by Louis and Sonja Kempen after they identified the lack of animal welfare assistance in the indigent communities of Secunda, South Africa. Initially the organization serviced the community of Holfontein, but has since expanded to two more communities in neighboring towns where the need was also dire.
Area A has a population of 12 000 residents; area B has a population of 6 000 residents and area C has a population of 32 000 residents.
Official non-profit status was received in 2014.
